Water quality
laboratories eyed

The Integrated Water Resources Management in Negros Oriental is preparing to establish water quality laboratories in every town and city in the province.

The IWRM in Negros Oriental was organized with technical assistance from German Technical Cooperation Water.

Vice Governor Jose Baldado said the incidents of diarrhea outbreak in Guihulngan and Bindoy in 2008 due to contaminated water was a challenge to the LGUs and the IWRM.

Baldado said the idea of putting up a water quality laboratory was discussed during a League of Municipal Mayors of the Philippines-Negros Oriental Chapter meeting.

Dumaguete City Mayor Agustin Perdices and Bayawan City German Sarana were present at the meeting.

He said majority of the local chief executives were in favor of the plan to establish a water quality laboratory but not necessarily in every town. Some of the municipalities said they do not have enough resources to put up and maintain a water quality laboratory.

Baldado said the group suggested that a water quality laboratory be established in every district of the province to which the LGU’s and their district representatives will contribute to put up a water quality laboratory.

He said they will make sure that at least one water quality laboratory is in place before they end the partnership contract with GTZ-Water this year. He said putting up a water quality laboratory will need highly trained personnel.

Baldado said among the accomplishments of IWRM with GTZ is the creation of Island-wide Integrated Water Resources Management Council. The IWRM council of the Island will lead in the implementation of programs that concerns water and the environment.

Negros Oriental has three wastewater treatment facility located in Bayawan City, Dumaguete and soon another in Manjuyod. The waste water treatment facility will help reduce water pollution.

それにしても熱気が感じられないフォーラムになりそうだ。そろそろ実践的な成果が出ないとやばいかも。学術的或いは実践的なな成果もフォーラムでは期待できない（かも）。
