１０６８：サトクリフ博士からのお返事

流石にサトクリフ博士からのお返事は早い。欧米人は通常電子メールの返事が早いですね。

そう云う点では、日本人のお返事は忘れたころに来るケースがある。中には、返事無しという無礼な方も多い。

さて、博士からのお返事は以下の通り。良く覚えて頂いて感謝ですね。クレメシュ博士の弟子と云うだけではなかったのがうれしい。クレメシュ先生の奥様もそうだが、細かいことまでよくご記憶されている。うれしいね。

流石に、ケンブリッジ大の博士は高い見識があったと今でも記憶している。国際機関の「エセ」専門家との交流はそういうことがないから嫌だね。

ただ、水文や水資源の大先生方は僕が博士号を当然持っていると錯覚されているのが困りますね。会社宛に、ＤＲ．何某で手紙が届くと恥ずかしくなる。

Very many thanks for your message; I do remember you well, and especially
the trip in the snowstorm. I think I have somewhere a photograph of you
standing on a bridge in the snow! I also remember the view over the river
at its mouth and a pleasant meal near the Black Sea coast. It was good to hear
from you; various colleagues like Nick Mandeville worked in X for a
while.

My first job after university was with the Sudan Government, who set up a
team investigating the Jonglei Canal; I then returned to Cambridge to do a
PhD on the topic. I am still doing some work on the Nile, but not much at
present.
