1082:2011ダボス会議での水問題

衛星放送の不調とエジプト情勢の悪化でBBCでのダボス特集もなんとなく終わってしまった。水セクターの問題も08年以来また議論されたようだ。

Nexusを使う方々が多いが、下記に示す通り、

Water-Food-Energy-Climateの連携まで来てしまったか。下記文字化けがあるが、予想して理解してください。直すのが面倒なので。

展ater Security: Managing the Water-Food-Energy-Climate Nexus・/h1>
27 January 2011, Davos, Switzerland

The World Economic Forum today launched 展ater Security: Managing the Water-Food-Energy-Climate Nexus・ a publication capturing where the water debate is today and what the challenges are for the future if no actions are taken to improve water management. Syngenta, as a member of the World Economic Forum Water Initiative, contributed to the content and development of the book.

At the 2008 World Economic Forum, business leaders set out a Call to Action on Water to raise awareness and develop a better understanding of how water is linked to economic growth, and to make clear the water security challenge we face if a business as usual approach to water management is maintained. Capturing where the debate is today, the book 展ater Security: Managing the Water-Food-Energy-Climate Nexus・sets out the challenges we face if nothing is done to improve water management in the next two decades. It also highlights the institutional initiative the World Economic Forum is now engaging in with the Water Resources Group to move from insight to action.

展ater is the biggest limiting factor in the world痴 ability to feed a growing population,・said Juan Gonzalez-Valero, Syngenta Head of Public Policy and Partnerships and author of the book痴 chapter 展ater Scarcity: Agriculture Provides Solutions・ 鄭griculture already uses some 70% of freshwater withdrawals, but some 40% is lost. We need a focus shift from 鼠and productivity・without concern for water use to 層ater productivity・ This means getting the highest yield out of every drop of water used in agriculture.・/p>

Peleg Chevion, Head of Business Development Water at Syngenta and co-author, drew attention to a wider set of technological and institutional ways to improve water use in agriculture. 的nvestments in new agricultural technologies have created a 鍍oolkit for farmers・based on three integrated solutions. First, modern technologies are enabling us to grow more from less. Better seeds developed through modern breeding and biotechnology are able to withstand heat and drought and preserve yield. Second, reducing water loss in agriculture requires full implementation of improved water delivery and minimum till methods. Finally, about 40% of the food grown is never used. We need to increase postharvest crop protection and infrastructure, especially in developing regions where poor farmers have to rely on inefficient harvesting, storage, and transportation.・/p>

Water security is one of today痴 most tangible and fastest growing social, political, environmental and economic challenges. Some 80 countries currently suffer from water shortages that threaten health and economies and 40% of the world population ・more than 2 billion people - does not have access to clean water or sanitation. Over the last three years, there has been an unprecedented level of discussion and analysis on water. In 2009, the 2030 Water Resources Group, with Syngenta as one of nine members, launched 鼎harting our Water Future・ an in-depth report into the increasingly critical issue of water resource scarcity.
